WKTQ

13Q first hit the air on March 11, 1973 a day before the official launch on March 12, 1973.

They were late in the AM game. They didn’t last long, but they were awesome. KQV had the heritage and was owned by a company that knew something about Top 40, so 13Q was instant roadkill. Buzz Bennett showing up the first day with a German shepherd — and a sledgehammer to knock the NBC logo off the lobby wall — set the tone.

The original airstaff included: Sam Holman former KQV Program Director (6-10 AM), Dennis Waters from Washington D.C. (10-2 PM), Mark Driscoll from Los Angeles (2-6 PM), Jack Armstrong from Buffalo (6-10 PM), Batt Johnson former Phoenix PD (10-2 AM), and Dave Brooks from Phoenix (2-6 AM).

Station calender c.1974.
